During this time of our country being in a recession, I wonder how many people stop to think about how they can be a blessing to someone else? When people are in need they panic and want to think only about themselves, but the bible is clear if we want to be blessed we must first be a blessing to someone else. In Proverbs 11:25 we are reminded of this, ” The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered.”
I couldn’t help but think of how faithful our Lord is to his word. This year marked the beginning of a great milestone for my family, Jonathan and I have decided that I would home school our children. While I was preparing for the school year I noticed the children needed a few things. I made a list of needs and wants for each of the children. It was a small and practical list. A couple of days later I received a text message from my sister saying, “hey, what size clothes does Joshua wear now? I have some clothes I want to give you.”
I was extremely thankful because we do not have a ton of money to spend on clothing. After my sister gave me the clothes, I was speechless, not only had the Lord met our needs he gave us an overflow. I know the Lord will honor his word in proverbs 11:25 ” The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered.” I have always had a heart of giving. I was never one to see someone in need and not help, or to have overflow and not share it with others.
I know that the Lord was honoring his word because I didn’t even pray over my list, the Lord just provided. Whenever you do not pray and you receive a blessing, it is because you are reaping a harvest from what you have already sown. This was God remaining true to his word in Galatians 6:7 ” A man reaps what he sows.” He fulfilled his promise by using my sister to be a blessing to us.
When my sister is in need because she was a blessing in our time of need, the Lord will bless her when her family is in need. So many people think that being stingy is the way to go, but it’s not. If you are a person that likes to hold on to what you have, I want you to think of giving as an investment. When you sow into others, others will sow into you. If you do not help others when they are in need, do not expect others to help you when you are in need.
Challenge: Are you in need of a blessing? When was the last time you have been a blessing to someone else? If you want to be blessed, you must sow seeds of blessings to others. ” The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered.”
